In church, you often hear the word "member" or "membership". It's easy to mistake this as an exclusive word that implies "membership has its privileges". This term isn't about paying dues to be in God's Kingdom or joining a special club. It actually has ties to Scripture when the Bible speaks about the church.

Romans 12: 4-5

"For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do not have the same function, so we, being many, are one body in Christ, and individually members of one another."

Just like a human body has members, the body of Christ has many members, each equipped with different gifts and purposes. Membership is committing to being one of the members God has provided to fill an important place in the church's life. This commitment is important to the body of Christ. Membership isn't about being more important, but is really a display of the humility of joining with others in the body of Christ to follow His will.
