Our History

New Site Baptist Church was organized in September of 1848 in a log school house near Hudson Spring (about 5 miles west of the current location). It is believed that New Site is the oldest Baptist church in Barry County.

For a number of years the New Site congregation met in several locations. Due to the Civil War, the church did not hold services for a period of 4 years. After the war, services resumed with 35 members on the roll. In 1878, a building was built on an acre of ground, 1 mile south west of its current location.

In 1916 the church built a red brick building on a site secured on the A.E. Banks farm and again relocated. In 1919 the church was officially known as “New Site Baptist Church” after aligning itself with the Southern Baptist Convention.

New Site Now

As New Site has continued to reach out to the Southwest Missouri area, God has provided the resources for Ministry and building expansions. In 1997 New Site built what is now the Student Center. In 2005 the Children's Education Building and Gym were constructed. In 2010 The Gym was converted into the current Worship Center and a new Gym/Fellowship Building was constructed. In 2017 a new two-story Children's Building was constructed on the South side of the building & the old Children's Education Building & Preschool Building were converted into much needed additional Adult Classrooms. New Site has become a regional church and with God's help will continue to Win, Teach, & Send disciples out to serve God.

Our 5 Purposes

It is our desire at New Site Church to share the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

Our goal is to take non Jesus followers and guide them to become Jesus followers. Then for them to grow in their faith and go out and share the hope they have in Jesus Christ.

We believe that in order to be a well rounded believer in Jesus Christ you must focus on these 5 Purposes in life.

Everything we do here at New Site is based off of these 5 Purposes.

  • Worship - Expressing love to God
  • Fellowship - Encouraging and supporting one another
  • Discipleship - Growing to be more like Jesus Christ
  • Ministry - Meeting people's needs out of love
  • Evangelism - Sharing God's good news with others

B. Bible - We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God. We believe it is without error and that it is our final authority for faith and practice. We believe that the theme of the Bible is the redemption of man from sin by the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe this salvation begins when we turn from sin (repent) and place our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ alone causing us to become born again.

(2 Timothy 3:15-17, Ephesians 2:8-9, 2 Peter 1:19-21, John 3:1-8)

A. Autonomy - Simply put, we as an individual congregation are governed by the Holy Spirit and the Word of God. We are not controlled by any denominational hierarchy or agency. While we do cooperate with a network of like-minded Southern Baptist churches, we are free to do ministry and make choices as we believe Jesus Christ leads us. This means we have a congregational form of government with the members discerning God's will for New Site Church.

(Ephesians 1:22-23, Matthew 16:15-19)

P. Priesthood of Every Believer - We believe that when Jesus Christ died on the cross His atonement provided for sinful man the access to a Holy God. The priesthood of the believer means that anyone and everyone can approach God through a crucified and resurrected Savior. (1 Timothy 2:4) Furthermore, as believer/priests we can approach God without praying through a human priest, the virgin Mary or departed saints. All believers in Jesus Christ have equal access to God.

(1 Peter 2:5-9, 1 John 1:7-9)

T. Testify - We believe that every Christian should testify of their faith in Jesus Christ to others. As Christians we are indwelt by the Holy Spirit and gifted by the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit leads us to be a witness for Christ, sharing the good news of the gospel with others who need Jesus Christ.

(Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18-20, Mark 1:17)

I. Immersion Baptism/ Lord's Supper - We believe that after one's conversion to Jesus Christ, that person should be baptized in water by immersion. Baptism is for a believer in Jesus Christ. Baptism is in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We believe the act of baptism is separate from God's act of salvation. Nevertheless, it is an important step of obedience symbolizing Jesus Christ's death, burial and resurrection. It also symbolizes the believer's death to sin, burial of the old life, and new life in Jesus Christ.

(Matthew 3:13-17, Acts 2:41-42, 8:35-39, Romans 6:3-5, Matthew 28:18-20)

S. Security of the Believer - We believe that once a person becomes saved, they are never again a lost soul. We believe that God begins a work of grace at conversion and that He works to complete it until the day of Christ Jesus. God convicts us, converts us, completes us. The doctrine of eternal security is not a license to sin, but rather a liberty to serve with the assurance that should we sin, God will not cast us off.

(1 Peter 1:5, Philippians 1:6, John 10:27-28)

T. Tithing - We believe God is the source of all blessings - spiritual and material. We live in a world He created. In recognition and gratitude of His goodness we gratefully and cheerfully give back to God a tithe (10%) of our income. Tithes and offerings are God's methods for financing the work of a church's ministry.

(1 Corinthians 16:1-2, Acts 4:36-37, Philippians 4:10-19, Malachi 3:8-11)
